Mexico City passes proposal to ban Trump from Mexico

Mexico City, (IINA) - The Mexico City legislature has voted to ban U.S. Republican candidate Donald Trump from the country, American digital news 'Opposing Views' reported citing media reports.
The legislators have no federal authority, making the ban a symbolic gesture. When the business mogul entered the presidential race in June 2015, he outraged both Mexican-Americans and the people of Mexico when he accused the country of intentionally spreading crime into the U.S.
“When Mexico sends its people, they’re not sending their best, they’re bringing drugs,” Trump said. “They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume,
are good people.”
Those comments effectively ended any positive relationship the GOP front-runner could have had with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto.
The ban on Trump passed on March 2 by unanimous decision. Deputy José Manuel Delgadillo of the National Action Party called the ban on Trump a “point of agreement” meant to encourage President Nieto to take on Trump’s rhetoric, the Huffington Post reports.
“What we’re saying is that if he wants to build a wall so that Mexicans can’t enter his country, then he is not welcome in our country,” said Delgadillo. “What we need now is for President Nieto to make a strong statement condemning Trump’s anti-Mexican comments.”
Deputy Victor Hugo Romo of the Revolutionary Democratic Party compared Trump’s rhetoric to the bigotry of Nazi leader Adolf Hitler.
On Monday, President Nieto voiced his concerns about Trump during an interview with a Mexican publication, NBC News reports.
President Nieto stated that Mexico would never pay for the business mogul’s proposed border wall, and compared the GOP candidate to fascist despots who took advantage of populist anger.
“That’s how Mussolini got in, that’s how Hitler got in, they took advantage of a situation, a problem perhaps, which humanity was going through at the time, after an economic crisis.”
Comparing Trump to Hitler has become an increasing trend among Mexican leaders. Former Mexican President Vicente Fox told CNN that Trump’s rhetoric was dangerous. “Today, he’s going to take the U.S. back to the old days of conflict, war and everything,” Fox said. “I mean, he reminds me of Hitler. That’s the way he started speaking.”
