Macedonia President receives ISESCO chief

Ohrid, Macedonia (IINA) – Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov received on Sunday  Director General of the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) Dr Abdulaziz Othman Altwaijri at the presidential summer residence in Ohridthe. Altwaijri is on a visit to the country at the invitation of the president to attend the sixth annual meeting of the school for young leaders. ISESCO chief will deliver a lecture on the role of schools in spreading values of cultural diversity. 
The leaders discussed a number of cultural issues, including promoting values of dialogue, mutual respect and cultural diversity among peoples in the world, in addition to countering extremist and exclusionary ideologies as a serious threat to world peace and security.  Altwaijri thanked President Ivanov for the invitation and the proposal to enhance bilateral cooperation in cultural, scientific and educational areas. The proposal met with the president’s favorable consideration and a program for future cooperation will be developed jointly.
Macedonia declared independence from Yugoslavia on 8 September 1991 and became member of the United Nations on 8 April 1993. Muslims account for 33.3 percent of the country’s population, totaling 2 million, with 580 mosques serving them.
