N'Djamena (IINA) – At least 10 people were killed in an explosion that rocked the main market in the Chadian capital of N'Djamena early on Saturday, Reuters reported according to witnesses.
No group immediately claimed responsibility but Boko Haram militant group, based in neighboring Nigeria, has carried out a series of bomb and gun attacks in Chad in recent months.
At least 10 bodies were seen lying near the entrance of the market where aid workers helped injured people into ambulances. Meanwhile, Security forces stopped people entering the site and searched stalls for more explosives.
Chad has been at the forefront of a regional military campaign against Boko Haram, which is seeking to carve out an Islamist state in northeast Nigeria and has mounted raids in neighboring Chad, Cameroon and Niger.
In June, at least 27 people, including four suspected Boko Haram fighters, were killed and 100 others injured in two attacks targeted police stations N'Djamena, which the government blamed on the Nigerian militant group.
