Lagos, (IINA) - The International Sea Trade and Investment Convention (ISTI) Committee on Wednesday said that it was all set to host its first International Sea Trade and Investment Convention in Nigeria, NAN reported.
Adebayo Sarumi, chairman of the convention committee, said that the aim was to name Nigeria as a maritime hub.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the event is scheduled to be held in Lagos on October 5 and 6, and that during the event, the committee will discuss with officials from Nigeria some issues of new and direct trade routes between Nigeria and the leading trade partners.
Sarumi noted that the convention would identify impediments to export trade, restrictions, facilities and regulations within the maritime sector.
He also said that maritime and trade in Sub-Saharan Africa region had experienced an unprecedented growth in the last few years, contributing over 15 billion dollars annually to Nigeria’s economy.
Finally, Sarumi said that he is expecting about 500 delegates from across the world to participate in this event, and that Nigeria’s former president, General Abdulsalami Abubakar will be the keynote speaker.
