Kuwait (IINA) – The fourth round of the UN-sponsored direct intra-Yemeni peace talks kicked off here on Sunday with high hopes after positive progress was seen in Saturday’s meetings, Kuwait News Agency (KUNA) reported.
On Saturday, the representatives of the Yemeni government, the General People’s Congress and Ansarullah movement held two sessions in the morning and in the afternoon at Bayan Palace, in the presence of UN Secretary General’s Special Envoy for Yemen Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed.
The negotiators discussed the implementation of UN Security Council resolution No. 2216, the efforts to augment the ceasefire agreement that went into effect on April 10, and a launching of a peace process in Yemen, based on the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) initiative and the outcome of the National Dialogue Conference. Discussions in the evening session led to an agreement to set up a ceasefire-monitoring panel made up of a person from each party.
The delegation called on armed groups to withdraw from areas, hand over heavy and medium weapons to the State, as well as resuming comprehensive political dialogue and forming special committee of prisoners and detainees.
