Jeddah, (IINA) - Yemeni President Abdu Rabbo Mansour Hadi expressed hope that Geneva consultations will lead to ending the suffering of Yemeni people through compliance of Houthi and Ali Abdullah Saleh’s militias with Security Council Resolution 2216.
The Yemeni president was speaking at the opening session of the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of member states of the Organization of Islamic Corporation (OIC) on Tuesday. "The meeting today comes at a time when we need to face up a new bolt in our comity of nations, a tear in our fabric and the deep crack within us. The peoples of our member states, our societies, our elites are all looking to see if we are able to face up, handle, find solutions and options for this challenge that we face in Yemen.”
"The world is watching us to conclude either that we are unable to heal our wounds or that this organization as most regional and international organizations is able to take charge and embark on initiatives related to the issues that concern it," he said.
Hadi noted that the meeting, which is taking place today, represents a determined stand in support of Yemen, its unity, sovereignty, political independence and territorial integrity. We are confident that it will come out with decisive and clear-cut resolutions on the situation in Yemen and ways to handle it.
The road map lies in the implementation of the GCC initiative and its executive mechanisms; the early pursuit of the implementation of the decisions reached at the Yemeni National Dialogue Conference, which ended in January 2014; and in embracing the “Riyadh Declaration” issued from the Riyadh conference that was held under the motto of “Rescuing Yemen and Building a Federal State”. The declaration fully supports the constitutional legitimacy of Yemen and rejects the overturning action against its symbols and reasserts the commitment to the principle of national partnership and the will to embark on rebuilding the Yemeni State’s institutions and launch an all-inclusive national reconciliation. Along with full commitment to the implementation of Security Council Resolution No.2216 of the year 2015."
We simultaneously call for an appropriate political paradigm to face up to crises and disputes in the region with a view to achieve peace and stability and normalize corporative relations between its states for the general benefit of their peoples, Hadi said.
He also highlighted the humanitarian situation in Yemen saying, the situation in Yemen calls for urgent action and we therefore appeal to the relevant regional and international organizations to take prompt measures to extend assistance and rescue Yemen and the Yemenis.
The OIC General Secretariat stands ready to organize such a conference in coordination with the Yemeni authorities and in corporation with our partners among the regional and international institutions, foremost of which the United Nations and its humanitarian and developments bodies.
In this connection, we feel duty-bound here to express our deep thanks and gratitude to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman for his gracious decision to extend generous donations to the Yemeni people in these dark hours and difficult circumstances. Our thanks are also to Kuwait and others states too for their generous contributions.
In conclusion, Yemeni president called upon all the Yemeni parties to listen to the voice of reason and place the interest of Yemen and the Yemenis above all other considerations.
