Jeddah (IINA) – The Committee of Permanent Representatives of the member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held a meeting here on Monday to follow up implementation of the resolutions issued in the 42nd session of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) held in Kuwait on May 27-28.
Addressing the meeting, OIC Secretary General Iyad Madani stressed the important role of the Committee in the activation of joint Islamic action and communication with the General Secretariat regarding the implementation of resolutions on various issues, including the cause of Palestine, political, economic, social, cultural, and humanitarian affairs, as well as science and technology affairs.
Madani praised the solidarity of the member states in the international forums, especially at the level of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, which adopted with the support of the OIC group important resolutions on violations of international law in the occupied Palestinian territories including East Jerusalem, the protection of the rights of Rohingya Muslim minority in Myanmar, and protecting the family.
The permanent delegates strongly condemned the recent terrorist attacks in Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Tunisia, Egypt, Chad, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Somalia and other OIC countries. They also condemned the terrorist attack that targeted the convoy of the UAE ambassador in the Somali capital of Mogadishu.
The delegates further stressed that these heinous terrorist attacks demonstrate that terrorism has no religion and neither homeland, and is acting to undermine the security and stability of the member states and international peace. Therefore, efforts must be redoubled and cooperation must be intensified within the framework of the Organization and at the international level to eradicate this dangerous phenomenon.
On the other hand, the assistant secretaries general and heads of departments in the Secretariat briefed the meeting on the steps that have been taken to follow up the implementation of the decisions issued in the 42nd session of the CFM meeting in Kuwait. The delegates made comments and offered suggestions in this regard, and in other matters that would develop the joint Islamic action and promote Islamic solidarity.
