Jordanian, UNHCR officials discuss refugee crisis and its repercussions

Amman, (IINA) – Jordanian Interior Minister Salamah Hammad on Monday discussed with UNHCR’s Director for MENA operations Amin Awad and the UNHCR Representative to Jordan Andrew Harper the Syrian refugee crisis and its repercussions on Jordan, Petra News Agency reported.
The minister said that Syrian refugees are allowed on daily basis to enter Jordan, noting that the refugees are transferred to refugee camps, mainly Al Azraq Camp, which is hosting a large number of the refugees.
Hammad said that he is coordinating with the labour ministry on issues pertaining to work permits to Syrian refugees, noting that Syrian refugees violating the law were given three months to rectify their status and acquire work permits.
Hammad also spoke about the pressure placed by the refugees on the Kingdom’s economic, health and educational sectors, highlighting in this regard the support provided by the UN organization to help Jordan address challenges resulting from the Syrian crisis.
