San Bernardino, US (IINA) - US Muslim groups raised more than $100,000 for families of victims of San Bernardino massacre, Los Angeles Times reported.
In just four days, the Muslims United for San Bernardino Campaign has raised more than $100,000 from more than 1,000 donors across the country, including Florida, Michigan, Ohio and Tennessee. The money will be disbursed through San Bernardino County and the United Way to assist victims’ families with funeral expenses and other needs, Faisal Qazi, the president of MiNDS, an award-winning charitable organization based in Southern California, said.
“The American Muslim community has had extensive and intense conversations in the last decade about our role in society,” said Qazi, 41-year-old. “What you’re seeing is the coming of a new generation of American Muslims being emotionally and physically invested in whatever transpires in society.”
From his side, Muzammil Siddiqi, chairman of Islamic Shura Council of Southern California (ISCSC), praised the fund initiative and urged all Muslims to contribute to it, Al Jazeera reported.
"We are sad at the suffering of our neighbours in San Bernardino. We are with them not only with the words of sympathy and condolences; we should show the acts of kindness and compassion," he said.
On Sunday, there was also an interfaith memorial service to commemorate victims at the Islamic Center of Redlands, which is close to where the attack took place.
