Cairo (IINA) – The Arab League’s Election Observation Mission congratulated the Egyptian government and people on the completion of the third and final stage of the roadmap, wishing the members-elect of Egypt's House of Representatives all success in the performance of their duties and responsibilities as well as in the completion of legislation and laws that meet the Egyptians’ aspirations in building a state of law and institutions.
Ambassador Haifa Abu Ghazaleh, assistant secretary general of the Arab League and head of the League's Mission to monitor the elections, affirmed Thursday in a press conference that the runoff in the second stage of Egypt's parliamentary elections took place in an orderly and peacefully manner as per the Egyptian constitution and the relevant laws.
She said the process also allowed voters to express their will freely and confidentially, pointing out that the negative observations monitored during this round will not materially affect the final results.
Ambassador Haifa stated that the mission will issue its final report, containing detailed observations and recommendations on the electoral process in all its stages, after the final declaration of the results and the end of the appeals period. She said the report will be submitted to Secretary General of the Arab League Dr Nabil Elaraby, adding that a copy will be sent to Egypt's Supreme Electoral Commission.
