Luxembourg (IINA) - Luxembourg for Finance and QInvest (Qatar Invest) are hosting an Islamic finance workshop on Tuesday. Luxembourg for Finance is the agency for the development of the Luxembourg financial centre, CPI Financial news reported.
The event, which will be held in Luxembourg, will bring together investment fund professionals, bankers corporates and industry practitioners to discuss Sukuk issuance and ways of promoting the Sukuk market as well as the emergence of Islamic high yield financing as an alternative. It will also examine the salient trends and challenges facing the fast-growing Islamic asset management industry.
The workshop will have presentations from a number of senior figures at QInvest, namely, Hani Ibrahim, Head of Debt Capital Markets at QInvest, Alexander Armstrong, Head of Financial Institutions & Structured Finance and Dr Ataf Ahmed, Head of Asset Management. They will be joined by Luxembourg and international panelists from the industry, including the CEO of the Luxembourg stock exchange.
“QInvest is very pleased to be working with Luxembourg for Finance for this event. The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg has been a significant contributor to the growth of the Islamic finance sector with its EUR 200 million five-year Sukuk last year," said Hani Ibrahim commenting on the event. He added that "this workshop will provide the opportunity to debate some of the pressing themes in the Islamic finance industry, at a critical moment in its development. At QInvest, we continue to see growing interest in Islamic finance, across Sukuk and Islamic asset management, as investors look for new means to diversify their portfolios and generate returns."
For his side, Deputy CEO of Luxembourg for Finance Tom Theobald said, “This workshop is an opportunity for Luxembourg practitioners to deepen their knowledge of Islamic finance products and discuss current and future trends. As the second largest fund centre in the world and home to the world’s leading stock exchange for international securities listings, Luxembourg is today a key centre for the development of Islamic finance in Europe. As in other areas, such as the internationalization of the Renminbi, Luxembourg has been successful by building on its openness and innovation, as well as its unique expertise in cross-border financial services. The Grand Duchy has played a pioneering role in Islamic finance in Europe for more than 35 years, as it was not only the first country in Europe to host an Islamic finance institution and a European Shari’ah compliant insurance firm, but also the first to list a Sukuk in Europe and to issue a sovereign Sukuk in Euro.”
