Washington, (IINA) - US President Barack Obama said on Sunday that Donald Trump is "the classic reality TV character" who had tapped into something real in the Republican Party. "Trump is unlikely to end up as president," Reuters reported quoting Obama as saying.
During an interview on CBS' "60 Minutes" program, Obama said that Trump "is a great publicity-seeker - and at a time when the Republican Party hasn't really figured out what it's for as opposed to what it's against".
Asked if he thought Trump would eventually disappear from the race, Obama replied: "I'll leave it up to the pundits to make that determination. I don't think he'll end up being president of the United States".
Opinion polls put Trump at the front of a crowded Republican field seeking the party's nomination for the 2016 presidential election.
It is noteworthy that Trump has aroused controversy with his provocative remarks against Muslims, when he agreed to a statement that said Muslims are a problem in the US, and that he would look into getting rid of them. Around two weeks later, he said that in case he is elected as US President, he would send all Syrian refugees admitted to the U.S. back to Syria.
The billionaire has aroused another controversy with his racist statements regarding illegal Mexicans, saying that they bring crime and drugs to the US, and that they are rapists, he also promised to build a wall on the US-Mexico border and to deport the estimated 11 million illegal immigrants already in the United States.
