Jerusalem, (IINA) - Israeli forces removed surveillance cameras that were installed by the Islamic Religious Endowments Authority (Waqf) near one of Al-Aqsa Mosque's main gates, WAFA reported citing Waqf.
Head of the Islamic Waqf of Jerusalem Azzam al-Tamimi said that the Israeli police removed all Waqf-installed surveillance cameras near Al-Maghariba Gate, which leads to the Mosque’s courtyards. Al-Tamimi claimed that by removing the surveillance cameras, Israel is attempting to “distort the truth”.
In a press statement, the Waqf Department vehemently condemned the “Israeli police’s interference with the Waqf’s work”  and it said that such interference indicates Israel's interest in the installation of surveillance cameras; however, it's not for providing evidence for truth and justice, but to serve their interests instead.
This came as groups of Jewish settlers, protected by heavily-guarded police, forced their way into the holy site via Al-Maghariba Gate, an act that came amid weeks of ongoing clashes between Palestinians and Israeli authorities all across the occupied territory and within Israel.
It is noteworthy that Israeli forces are still imposing restrictions on Palestinian worshipers’ entry to the holy site. The forces also withhold youth and women’s identity cards until they leave the Mosque, and they are preventing around 60 women daily from entering the site.
