Algiers (IINA) – Foreign ministers of Algeria, Niger and Chad urged Libya once more to convene and establish a national unity government, news agencies reported.
Algeria hosted a meeting on Sunday with Niger and Chad to discuss the Libyan crisis. The meeting was attended by Algerian Minister for Maghreb, African Union and Arab League Abdelkader Messahel, Nigerien Foreign Minister Aichatou Kane Boulama and Chad's Foreign Minister Moussa Faki Mahamat.
"It is urgent to reach a political solution preserving the unity and territorial integrity of Libya and its peoples' cohesion through establishing a national unity government, one able to face, with the international community's help, rising challenges," read a joint statement issued by the three countries sharing borders with Libya.
Algeria expressed concern that Libyan "chaos" would encumber the entire region with insecurity, urging Libyans to establish a national unity government.
Earlier, UN Special Representative for Libya Bernardino Leon said talks aimed at uniting Libya's two warring governments are entering the final stretch and there is hope of signing a deal on September 20.
