Brussels (IINA) – An international conference, entitled “Israeli settlements as an obstacle to peace – possible ways forward”, is to be held here on Monday. The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) is organizing and sponsoring the two-day event jointly with the Arab League and the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (CEIRPP).
The opening session will begin with statements to be delivered, on behalf of the UN Secretary General, by Rima Khalaf, chairperson of the UN Economic and Social Commission for West Asia, Ambassador Foddi Sek, CEIRPP chairman, Dr Riyad Al-Maliki, Palestinian Foreign Minister and Ambassador Samir Bakr, OIC Assistant Secretary-General for Palestine Affairs.
High-level representatives from the Arab League and the European Council on Foreign Relations (ECFR), as well as other senior representatives will participate in the session.
Some international speakers and delegates from Palestine will also participate in the event. They will speak about the impact of the Israeli settlements on the rights of the Palestinian people and the role of the international community, including international organizations, national institutions, civil society institutions and local authorities, on exerting pressure to halt the Israeli settlement policy in the occupied Palestinian land.
On the third day that follows the conference, a consultative meeting with the civil society institutions will be held to highlight their role in confronting Israeli settlement policies.
