ISESCO mourns death of renowned scholar Sheikh Wahbah Az-Zuhaili

Sheikh Wahbah Az-Zuhaili

Rabat, (IINA) - The Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) mourned the death of 83-year-old Syrian scholar Sheikh Wahbah Az-Zuhaili.
“A Sunni scholar of the highest caliber, Sheikh Az-Zuhaili left a rich legacy of singular work, including peer-reviewed publications. He also gave numerous extremely important research papers, including those presented at conferences organized by ISESCO in Rabat and beyond."  Sheikh Az-Zuhaili was member of several Sharia boards in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the Sudan, India and America and chaired the Islamic jurisprudence department of Sharia College at Damascus University, ISESCO noted in a statement. 
"Sheikh Az-Zuhaili  was also named Islamic personality of the year in a ceremony held in Putrajaya by the Malaysian government in 2008 on the occasion of the new hegira year.”
The passing away of this extremely knowledgeable scholar is an irreparable loss to the Muslim world, ISESCO said while praying Almighty Allah to accommodate the deceased in His Paradise, grant him bounteous mercy and forgiveness, as well as to bestow him unfailing reward and inspire his family, students and loved-ones patience and solace, the statement added.
