Washington (IINA) – The parties of Yemeni conflict confirmed on Thursday their commitment to implement a humanitarian pause starting Friday through the end of the holy month of Ramadan, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon expressed thanks to Yemeni President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, and paid tribute to his continued support for the humanitarian truce, said Stéphane Dujarric, spokesman for the Secretary General.
He pointed out that President Hadi had notified the Arab coalition members of his consent to announce a humanitarian truce in order to ensure their support and cooperation.
Dujarric told reporters that the UN chief has received assurances, through his Special Envoy for Yemen, from the Houthi militias, the General People's Congress party and other parties of their support for a halt to fighting until July 17 (end of Ramadan). He added that this unconditional humanitarian pause is urgently needed to help everybody in Yemen.
