Tunis (IINA) – Tunisia deplored the United Kingdom's call to its nationals to leave Tunisia in a statement of the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Tunisia Press Agency (TAP) reported.
Tunisia regrets this call which comes at a moment when efforts are being made by the country to defeat terrorism, protect its citizens and its guests, and preserve the gains of the democratic process.
Since the state of emergency was declared, the interior security forces, the national army and the special services were mobilized to protect all tourists on the Tunisian soil and secure the tourist zones and circuits, the Foreign Minister's statement said.
“All the necessary measures were also taken to better protect the premises of the diplomatic and consular missions accredited in Tunis,” it added.
Strongly involved in the war against terrorism in collaboration with the sisterly and friendly countries, Tunisia pledges to take all the measures to guarantee security of its visitors and their interests, according to the statement.
The UK Foreign Office on Thursday changed its travel advice to Tunisia, warning against all but essential travel due to the "evolving security situation", and recommended that British tourists return to the United Kingdom.
