OIC Secretary General welcomes agreement for peace and reconciliation in Mali

Jeddah, (IINA) - Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Iyad Madani welcomed the signing of the Agreement for Peace and Reconciliation in Bamako on Friday, following the Algiers peace process.
He commended the Algerian led international mediation, which also included the OIC for brokering a  balanced deal that serves as a good basis for durable peace in Mali.
OIC Secretary General also expressed the hope that the formal signing between the government of Mali and the Algiers platform will be a basis for achieving peace and sustainable development in north Mali.
In this vein, Madani expressed satisfaction over the initialing of the peace accord by the Coordination Movements of Azawad on Thursday, in Algiers and appeals to them to adhere to the agreement as soon as possible in the interest of the long-suffering people of north Mali.
The special envoy of the Secretary General for Mali and the Sahel, Former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Burkina Faso Djibill Bassole represented the OIC on the occasion and signed the accord on behalf of the Organization along with other members of the mediation panel.
In his statement, Bassole pledged the solidarity and support of the Muslim world for Mali and assured of the OIC’s commitment in the implementation of the peace deal.
