Israel's offensive on Gaza 2014

Geneva (IINA) – The Palestinian Authority has welcomed the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) resolution to extend the mandate of the UN Independent Commission of Inquiry on the 2014 Gaza Conflict to June.

The commission of inquiry, formed with the decision of the UNHRC, has announced the delay of submitting its report until June 23, instead of March 23, to give the committee more time to “analyze with the utmost objectivity the large number of additional submissions and documents received over the past few weeks.”

Speaking to the United Nations Radio, Palestinian Authority representative at the UN in Geneva said he was waiting for the report to be completed on its deadline, so as to be published at the end of the current session, lamenting that Israel's refusal to cooperate with the inquiry has led to the delay.

He called on the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to work with Israel, the occupying power, in order to allow the Committee to visit Palestine and Israel, so that it can investigate all the violations, and come back with faster information for the next session.
