Abbas urges U.S. not to block creation of Palestinian state

Monday 01 Dec 2014 - 12:28 Makkah mean time-9-2-1436 Cairo (IINA) – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas on Saturday accused the United States of blocking the establishment of a Palestinian state, urging President Obama to support the Palestinian bid at the UN Security Council, or at the very least, to refrain from vetoing it. In an interview aired on Egyptian television, Abbas called upon the U.S. to “preserve its honor as a superpower and operate in accordance with international obligations, which are coordinated with the interests of the American people, and to support the Palestinian proposal to the Security Council or not to impose a veto.” President Abbas made these remarks following announcement that the Palestinian proposal for ending the Israeli occupation would be submitted to the UN Security Council within days. Abbas also expressed regret at U.S. lawmakers' recommendation to freeze financial assistance to the Palestinians and blocking the convening of signatory countries to the Geneva Convention, which the Palestine wants to join. Egypt court jails Badie, 26 others 3 years for insulting judiciary

Monday 01 Dec 2014 - 12:23 Makkah mean time-9-2-1436 Cairo (IINA) – An Egyptian court sentenced the Muslim Brotherhood's top leader Mohammed Badie and 26 of the group's leading figures to three years in prison for insulting the judiciary. Badie and other defendants were in the criminal court of Cairo Sunday on charges of jailbreak during the 2011 uprising. The judge delivered the sentence after the group's leaders offended the court during trial. The trial of Badie and other defendants on the charge of escaping from jail has been adjourned to December 20. Sunday's sentences came one day after an Egyptian court cleared Egypt’s former president Mubarak over killing protestors during the 2011 revolution that toppled him. AB/IINA

Monday 01 Dec 2014 - 11:39 Makkah mean time-9-2-1436 Manama (IINA) – Bahrain’s Minister of State for Communications Sheikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa unveiled a trend to reduce international call rates between the Gulf States. The minister pointed out, in a statement to the Bahraini newspaper "Al-Wasat" published on Sunday, that one of the telecom companies will announce a reduction in international call rates among the Gulf States, adding that other companies will follow in the coming weeks after concluding the necessary agreements. “Given the need for these agreements, we will start reducing international call rates between Bahrain and three of the Gulf States, then the rest will gradually join,” Sheikh Fawaz said, noting that there are other agreements to be announced later."
