Perth (IINA) – The Australian Security Forces evicted four people from Saturday night's western derby at Domain Stadium in Perth, capital of the state of Western Australia, after they erected an anti-Muslim banner, news agencies reported.
Security and venue staff quickly removed the banner, which was briefly erected at halftime of West Coast’s 33-point win over Fremantle, with four people evicted from the match over the incident.
The latest incident comes just over a week after a similar anti-Muslim banner was unfurled during Collingwood’s win over Richmond the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG).
Australian media reported that the far-right group United Patriots Front has claimed responsibility for the racist and anti-Islam banner.
Domain Stadium management said in a statement that the four people evicted would likely be banned from the stadium for life for "displaying an unauthorized religious banner" for a short time during half-time.
Both the Australian Football League (AFL) and West Australian Football Commission condemned the group's antics.
"The views do not represent our game in any way and the AFL would ask media and public not to give the group the publicity they are craving," AFL representative Patrick Keane said.
