Auckland, New Zealand (IINA) - The Muslim community of New Zealand held its 8th annual walkathon on Saturday with the participants walking up to 10km to raise money for charity, Times Online news reported.
The thousands of dollars raised through the walk will go to supporting the New Zealand Blind Foundation and Humanity First charities. The walk forms part of number of initiatives that the community undertakes throughout the year to support those most in need.
This year’s walkathon was held in the Barry Curtis Park in Flat Bush and had 79 participants. A total of $11,500 was raised, with none of it going towards the administration of the event, which was organized and managed by a team of volunteers from the Muslim community.
