Tunis (IINA) – The Tunisian House of People’s Representatives (HPR) on Saturday adopted a new law to combat terrorism and money laundering, Tunisia Press Agency (TAP) reported.
The new draft law, which replaces the December 2003 law, was passed with a large majority of 174 votes for, 10 against.
HPR speaker Mohamed Ennaceur described the passing of the new legislation as a “great achievement” which is “long-awaited by the Tunisian people.”
While lauding “the spirit of compromise” between the various parliamentary groups and parties that make up the HPR on this law, Ennaceur noted that the anti-terrorist fight has not ended with the adoption of the new bill. Its adoption, he said, is but an aspect of the strategy devised by the government and assisted by the parliament, to fight against terrorism and money laundering.
He added that this also requires efforts at all levels and a national mobilization to combat the scourge of terrorism and money laundering.
Ennaceur announced that the new legislation will be submitted to the constitutional control authority, prior to its promulgation by the President of the Republic.
