London (IINA) – Britain has relaxed warning to its nationals who want to travel to Iran, just over a week from the signing of a nuclear deal between Tehran and the world's major powers in Vienna.
The new advisory issued Saturday by the Foreign Office still urges Britons to avoid traveling to parts of Iran that border Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan. But it no longer urges them to avoid all non-essential travel to the Islamic Republic.
Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said the change is a result of the more constructive approach favored by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani. He added that there has been "decreasing hostility" toward British nationals under Rouhani's government, according to AP.
In the wake of the nuclear agreement struck in Vienna on July 14, London expressed hope to reopen the British embassy in Tehran before the end of the year.
“There is a very clear will to do it and I will be working directly with my Iranian counterpart to ensure that we clear away those obstacles over the next few months,” Hammond told the Commons.
