Clifton, New Jersey (IINA) - The New Jersey chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-NJ) in a statement issued on Tuesday welcomed a decision by the Clifton Board of Education (CBE) to include Eid al-Adha in the 2016-2017 school calendar.
“We applaud the Clifton Board of Education for taking this important step toward inclusiveness and recognition of the civil rights of Muslim students," said CAIR New Jersey Executive Director Jim Sues.
Sues noted the efforts of high school senior Kaity Assaf and the other Muslim students of Clifton whose work resulted in the decision to add the holiday.
He said other school districts nationwide are now recognizing Muslim holidays.
CAIR offers a booklet, called "An Educator's Guide to Islamic Religious Practices," designed to help school officials provide a positive learning environment for Muslim students.
