San Francisco, (IINA) - The San Francisco Bay Area office of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-SFBA) will host On Friday, an “Evening with elected officials” event in Burlingame at the new Yaseen foundation center, CAIR reported.
At the event, members of the Muslim community from the Peninsula area will meet with elected officials, including the mayors, councilmembers, and chiefs of police from Belmont, Burlingame and Foster City.
CAIR-SFBA is organizing the event as part of a broader effort to increase civic engagement in the American Muslim community and to better connect elected officials and candidates to their American Muslim constituents. This and other events are also designed to help officials get to know local community members on a personal level and to empower community members with hands-on experience and knowledge of what it takes to ensure that elected leaders take actions that make the state and country a better place for local families.
Community members, ranging from mothers with infants and working professionals to grade school and college students and retirees will be available for interviews before and after the trainings and meetings.
"Thousands of Peninsula area residents identify as Muslim and are actively contributing to their local communities every day as public school teachers, doctors, nurses, professors, community volunteers, and social workers,” said CAIR-SFBA Government Relations Coordinator Sameena Usman. “American Muslims, including the almost 250,000 who call the Bay Area their home, are an integral part of our communities and have the potential to make a significant impact in local advocacy and political efforts.”
