The meeting was aimed at addressing the critical situation in Syria and to come up with concrete commitments of the influential parties to put an immediate end to the suffering of civilian population, who are facing dire humanitarian conditions, in many besieged areas in the country.
The participants decided to elaborate modalities for reaching urgent steps to implement the provisions of the UN resolution 2254, particularly those related to delivery of the humanitarian aid to the areas under siege, achieving a nationwide cessation of hostilities within one week and advancing a political transition through the engagement of all parties in negotiations under the auspices of the United Nations as soon as possible, without preconditions.
The meeting established two task forces dedicated to work on unhindered humanitarian access and on a ceasefire in Syria in view to create conducive conditions for a political solution and a significant reduction of violence.
