Rabat (IINA) – Morocco said it has arrested a Belgian citizen of Moroccan descent who is suspected of having links to gunmen and bombers who carried out Paris attacks of November 13, which killed 130 people.
The suspect was arrested in the city of Mohammedia, near Casablanca on Friday, said a statement of the Interior Ministry on Monday, confirming that the detainee had previously fought in Syria with "Al-Nusra Front" before joining Daesh terrorist organization.
According to the statement, the preliminary investigations conducted by Morocco's security services with the suspect, showed that he had traveled to Syria from Belgium with one of Saint-Denis suicide bombers, and had firstly joined "Al-Nusra Front" before joining Daesh.
The statement pointed out that the detainee benefited after joining Daesh from military training in the use of various types of weapons and guerrilla warfare, before he was sent later to one of the battlefronts.
During his stay in Syria, the suspect built solid ties with Daesh field commanders, including the mastermind of the Paris attacks, and those who had vowed to carry out terror operations in France and Belgium, the statement explained.
The suspect had traveled from Syria through Turkey, Germany, and Belgium, and he entered Morocco from the Netherlands, according to the statement.
