Jeddah (IINA) – Indonesia will host the emergency Islamic Summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member countries on March 6 and 7. The emergency meeting is being convened at the request of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to discuss the situation in Jerusalem and Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Earlier, Morocco had agreed to host the emergency summit but later it gave excuses for not hosting the summit, International Islamic News Agency (IINA) has learnt from the informed sources. Morocco had not given any convincing reasons for declining to host the summit, according to OIC sources. Subsequently, the OIC officials held hectic talks with senior officials of Indonesia, the most populous Muslim nation, last month in Jakarta and during the recent extraordinary meeting of OIC foreign ministers held in Jeddah.
Iyad Ameen Madani, secretary general of OIC, met with the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi and her accompanying delegation on 20 January, on the sidelines of the Jeddah meeting. During the meeting, Madani welcomed the Indonesian decision to hold the extraordinary Islamic summit, commending Indonesia’s  role in supporting the Palestinian cause. The two sides reviewed during the meeting the bilateral relations between OIC and Indonesia, particularly with regards to the perspective on OIC Regional Office in Jakarta. The Indonesian minister called on OIC to enhance cooperation among the Islamic states, especially in spreading the moderate and progressive message of Islam. Marsudi valued OIC’s contribution in creating peace and stability in the Muslim world through political consultations.
