Jordan's king receives German president in Amman

Amman, (IINA) – Jordan's King Abdullah and Queen Rania received German President Joachim Gauckand his wife, who arrived on an official visit to Jordan here. During the meeting, the King stressed Jordan's keenness to further strengthen friendly relations and cooperation with Germany in various fields, and maintain coordination on regional and international issues, Petra news agency reported.
During the talks, which were attended by Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour, the two leaders reaffirmed their keenness to strengthen bilateral partnership, exchange experiences and benefit from expertise of both countries.
They also discussed cooperation between the two countries in various fields, especially in mega projects, education, vocational training and water, as Germany is one of the countries that provide technical assistance to the Kingdom in the field of water resources management and conservation.
With regard to Jordan's comprehensive reform process, King Abdullah highlighted steps that have been made in order to consolidate the reformist approach in partnership between various stakeholders and laws governing political life.
On extremism and terrorism, which threatens the security and stability of the region and the world, the two leaders emphasized the importance of intensifying cooperation and efforts regionally and internationally to fight terrorism within a holistic strategy.
In this context, the king stressed the importance of Germany's role in supporting international efforts to counter terrorist and extremist ideology, and its contribution within the international coalition in this area.
The talks also figured the Syrian crisis, and efforts aimed at reaching a political solution that ends the humanitarian crisis in the country.
The king reviewed the burden Jordan has to bear, due to hosting 1.4 million Syrians refugees, and the pressure they place on infrastructure, stressing the importance of increasing international support to the Kingdom.
The German president thanked the king for the warm reception and hospitality that was accorded to him and the accompanying delegation.
He expressed his country's appreciation for the way the Kingdom is dealing with the Syrian crisis, and the refugees’ file, despite its limited resources and capabilities, stressing Germany's keenness to benefit from Jordan's experience in this area.
He pointed out that the Kingdom plays a major role in the fight against terrorism at all levels.
