Islam ensures freedom, security to minorities: Pak minister

Quetta, Pakistan (IINA) - Pakistan Federal Minister for Religious Affairs Sardar Mohammed Yousuf has appealed religious scholars to support the government and armed forces in war on terror to root out terrorism from the country forever and to defeat terrorists, Pakistan Observer reported.
He made the remarks while addressing an interfaith conference here on Tuesday. “It is the need of the hour that the religious scholars and clerics will have to fully support the government and Pakistan Army who are engaged in war on terror and to rid the country of terrorism on permanent basis,” he said adding that the religious scholars should guide the nation in the light of Islamic teachings.
“The current situation of the country seeks interfaith harmony. It is good omen that the followers of all religions including Islam, Christianity, Hinduism and Sikhism have been playing their due role in efforts being put for promotion of interfaith harmony,” the federal minister said.
He also said that the followers of all religions in Pakistan have been making joint efforts for the development, progress and prosperity of the country.
“Islam provides freedom and security to minorities, and the government has been ensuring security and protection to life and property of minorities in the country,” he said.
“Terrorism and sectarianism can be eliminated on permanent basis if we promote culture of tolerance and interfaith harmony,” he added.
The Federal Minister Yousuf said that a national interfaith conference will be convened in Islamabad soon where renowned religious scholars belonging to all parts of the country would be invited.
