Sokoto, Nigeria (IINA) - The Sultan of Sokoto in Nigeria, Alhaji Mohammed Sa’ad Abubakar, has once again restated that insurgency has no place in Islam, advising Muslims to extract bad elements among them, Naij online news reported, (Nigerian news).
He also advised Muslims to teach their children to avoid the young ones from being needlessly radicalized and recruited into insurgency.
Sultan of Sokoto made the statement at the turbaning of the Grand Imam of Ekiti state, Sheikh Jamiu Kewulere Bello, as the president general of the League of Imams and Alfas in Southwest, Edo and Delta states.
Abubakar said: “Occasions like this are not for celebration mainly but a time to tackle the situation facing us as Muslims in Nigeria and every part of the world.
“The problems that await the newly appointed president-general of League Imams and Alfas is to bring together all the Muslim leaders in this region and other parts of the country.
“It is imperative for us as Islamic leaders to teach our children what is Islamic and what is not Islamic.
“I cannot imagine when a small boy or girl is paid to commit suicide and kill innocent people all in the name of using Islamic religion to perpetrate evil.
“For the record, those children and people killing innocent people in this country are not Muslims but terrorists.
“That is why the newly appointed president-general must ensure that adequate teaching of Islamic religion is given to Muslim brothers and sisters.
“I urge all the Islamic youths present in this occasion not to accommodate bad ones among you because they want to destroy the Islamic religion in this country and the world at large.
“Islam does not allow weapons, explosive or bombs, so, therefore, we must educate all our youths not to indulge in the act of terrorism.”
