Saudi FM: Outcome of Arab-South American Summit unprecedented

Riyadh, (IINA) - Saudi Arabia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel Al-Jubeir on Wednesday described the fourth Summit of Arab and South American Countries as unprecedented in its comprehensiveness and in the size and quality of the topics that were discussed, stressing that there was no reservation by any country on any item of the "Riyadh Declaration", which was read out at the end of the summit. "This is unprecedented, and it indicates the strength of ties and concern by participating nations to strengthen these relations in all fields," SPA reported quoting him as saying.
Al-Jubeir made the remarks during a joint press conference along with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Brazil and the Coordinator of the South American countries Mauro Louise Iker Ferreira and Secretary General of the Arab League Nabil El-Araby, at the conclusion of the Fourth Summit of Arab and South American countries at the King Abdulaziz International conference Center in Riyadh.
Al-Jubeir noted that despite the fact that the South American countries are far away from the Arab states geographically, information technology and transport progress have facilitated the exchange of contacts and visits, which boosted relations between the two sides.
Al-Jubeir pointed out that the most important points contained in the final communique of the summit is emphasis on gratitude extended to the South American countries for recognizing the State of Palestine and emphasis on the importance of the rejection of non-interference in the affairs of countries in the region by any external forces in a way that violates UN Charter and the principle of good-neighborliness. He also noted that there is an agreement on the importance of countering terrorism and extremist thinking, as well as communication and dialogue between the followers of religions and civilizations.
The Foreign Minister confirmed that the meeting was very positive in pushing forward the relations between the Arab countries and Latin American countries, expressing thanks to all who contributed to the success of this historical summit of various sectors.
For his part, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Brazil and Coordinator of the South American countries Mauro Luiz Ferreira thanked the government and people of Saudi Arabia for the hospitality accorded to all delegations during the Summit.
He expressed his appreciation and gratitude to the Saudi government's efforts for the organization and success of this summit. He also praised the final statement of the summit, which was issued without any reservations, confirming that it was not an easy task as it highlighted the extent of the Kingdom's commitment and ability to achieve understanding.
Al-Jubeir stated that there are 16 million Brazilians of Arab origins decently living and working in Brazil. The minister also highlighted the good relations between the two sides, hoping for further development of those relationships.
In turn, Secretary General of the Arab League Nabil El-Araby expressed his thanks and appreciation to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and the people of the Kingdom for the hospitality and warm reception, hailing the Kingdom's preparations for the summit.
Afterwards, Al-Jubeir answered reporters' questions, stressing in his response to a question about the issue of Iraq that "Riyadh Declaration" covered all matters in the region, including Iraq, terrorism, and the importance of countering terrorism and maintaining Iraq's unity and territorial integrity and sovereignty.
Al-Jubeir said: "In all occasions, Saudi Arabia stresses the importance of preserving the Arab identity of Iraq, territorial integrity, Iraq's independence and not subjecting Iraq to any outside influence, … and the importance of implementing the reforms that have been agreed last summer to ensure the rights of all Iraqi components".
"We in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia look at Iraq as a sister of us, we don't look at it as Sunnis, Shiites, Kurds or Christians. Iraq is more important than all sects, and we seek security, stability and prosperity for Iraq".
Al-Jubeir stressed that the Kingdom aims to build best relations with all countries of the world and in particular with the countries of South America. He also said that there are coordination and consultations in all fields, in addition to cooperation in the military sphere between Saudi Arabia and Brazil. The minister stressed the need for intensifying these relations, not only in the economic field but also in the political and security fields, in addition to countering terrorism and its financing. "The Kingdom is keen on intensifying and improving its relations with all countries of the world, particularly South American countries."
