Luxembourg, (IINA) - Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi spoke on Friday about various efforts being made by the government to eradicate the scourge of terrorism, Antara News reported.
Retno made the remarks while addressing the Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) in Luxembourg. Retno was asked to explicitly discuss the efforts being made in combating terror during the session, according to a press release issued on Monday by the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. European Union Foreign Minister Federica Mogherini chaired the meeting.
Retno reiterated that eradicating terrorism needed a comprehensive approach, encompassing law enforcement, respect for human rights and participation of all stakeholders. The minister said women empowerment also plays a significant role in preventing radicalism and extremism as the women, particularly the mothers, can significantly contribute to instilling values of tolerance.
The Islamic organizations in Indonesia, such as Nahdlatul Ulama and Muhammadiyah, also promoted Islamic moderate values, pluralism and tolerance in daily life. Retno said cooperation among the ASEM member countries could prevent extremism and terrorism.
The ASEM was attended by several ministers and high ranking officials from 53 ASEM partner countries.
