Diyarbakir, Turkey (IINA) - A bomb exploded in the Sur district of southeastern Diyarbakir province on Saturday caused the death of one police officer and injured six others, Anadolu Agency reported citing a provincial governorate.
Diyarbakir Governorate said in a statement that the bomb exploded while police officers were clearing streets of barriers and trenches made by supporters of the terrorist organization PKK.
The statement pointed out that a gun battle broke out with three members of the separatist terror organization following the initial attack, adding that the treatment of the injured police officers is ongoing.
"One individual was killed and the two [PKK] were wounded. In addition, 68 hand-made bombs and one Kaleshnikov rifle were also seized", added the statement.
It is noteworthy that the more than 150 members of the security forces and dozens of civilians have been martyred since PKK renewed its armed campaign against the Turkish state in late July.
