Khartoum (IINA) – At the invitation of the government of Sudan, a delegation from the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) participated in the opening session of the Conference of Sudan National Dialogue (SND) held here on Saturday. The delegation was headed by Ambassador Abdullah Alim, OIC Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs,
Ambassador Abdullah Alim said that the OIC participation in this meeting comes in line with the resolutions of the Council of Foreign Ministers (CFM) especially that on solidarity with Sudan, adopted in the recent CFM session in Kuwait last May, which confirmed the OIC support for the process of national dialogue in the country.
Alim praised the courageous and responsible attitudes of the parties that declared their commitment to the national dialogue, and reiterated the OIC invitation to the parties that did not participate and those that still carry weapons to undertake their historical responsibilities in front of the people of Sudan. He also called them to assume a spirit of sacrifice and reconciliation at this critical juncture in the history of Sudan and utilize this favorable opportunity to achieve peace in Sudan through participation in the comprehensive national dialogue process as it is being the only option to resolve all the country's issues.
Ambassador Alim asserted that the rejection of dialogue would bring Sudan back to violence that has brought only instability and disrupted development in the country.
He stressed the OIC's commitment to harness all its capabilities to support constructive dialogue between the Sudanese people to promote peace and stability in Sudan, one of the founding countries of the OIC and to realize the principle of Islamic solidarity.
