Ramallah, (IINA) - The Palestinian Detainees and Ex-Detainees Committee said in a press statement on Saturday that Israel has detained around 650 Palestinians since the beginning of October 2015, pointing out that the detainees include minors, women and injured, and that some of whom are still in Israeli custody, WAFA reported.
The committee noted that the majority of the 650 Palestinian detainees are from Jerusalem and that they were detained during clashes and night house-to-house raids. It said that most of the detainees were subjected to severe beatings during their arrest.
It further said that a number of detainees were detained inside military camps and settlements for long hours, where their leg and hand tied, blindfolded, and subjected to severe maltreatment and humiliation at the hands of Israeli soldiers.
It noted that the injured detainees, who suffer from critical wounds or were used by Israeli police and army forces as human shields during their arrest, were subjected to interrogation while being shackled to their hospital beds.
It also pointed out that the Israeli authorities prevent the committee’s lawyers from meeting with the detainees, particularly the injured.
This came during rising tension levels across the West Bank and Jerusalem as a result of the repeated Israeli assaults on Al-Aqsa Mosque, Islam’s third holiest site, particularly after increasing attempts to enforce a temporal division on the site between Muslims and Jews.
