Abuja (IINA) – Boko Haram released a new video posted online on Wednesday in which the militant group claimed that its leader Abubakar Shekau who was not in the video, was still alive and in charge of the group.
"Our leader, Abubakar Shekau is alive and remains our leader," declared a gun-wielding man surrounded by over a dozen armed fighters in the 17-minute video in Arabic and Hausa.
"Our allegiance remains with al-Baghadadi," added the gunman, referring to the leader of the so-called Islamic State (IS) group, Abu Bakr al-Baghadadi.
The release of the latest Boko Haram video came in the wake of three separate suicide bombings on Wednesday in northeast Nigeria, killing at least 14 people. The attacks were blamed on the terrorist group.
In March, Shekau proclaimed Boko Haram's allegiance to IS.
