Riyadh, (IINA) - Activists on Twitter have launched an organized campaign to close down all accounts that promote ISIS-related ideologies. The activists, which include prominent Saudi personalities, were able to close down hundreds of accounts belonging to ISIS and its supporters recently, Arab News reported.
Social media expert Ammar Mohammad noted that ISIS recruited many people through social media means in the Kingdom as well as in other Arab countries.
The campaign, named "The Spamming National Campaign", operated by informing Twitter management of users who were using the site to promote extremist ideologies through the news and video clips that they post on the website. These posts often include direct threats to prominent Saudi and international figures, which provided an even greater motive for the activists to continue their work with the campaign.
Activist Sultan Al-Harithi who participates in the group said that the campaign closed down more than 300 accounts that were promoting the terror organization.
