Jordan to host the first global forum on youth, peace and security

Wednesday 05 Aug 2015 - 14:36 Makkah mean time-20-10-1436 (Image from Petra) Madaba, Jordan (IINA) - Jordan in partnership with the United Nations and international civil society organizations, will host for two days the first Global Forum on Youth, Peace and Security on 21-22 of August, Petra news reported. The Forum, which will be held at the King’s Academy in Madaba, 35 kilometers south of Amman, will bring together 500 participants from all regions of the world, primarily young people, youth-led organizations, senior governmental and UN officials, international non-governmental organizations, foundations and donor agencies, academics and media. This event originates from a thematic debate at the United Nations Security Council that was organized by the Kingdom of Jordan in April 2015, during its presidency of the Security Council. Presiding over the session, Crown Prince Al Hussein delivered a statement in which he expressed Jordan’s readiness to host the first international forum focused on youth’s role in building sustainable peace. This youth-driven event is envisaged as a turning point towards establishing a new international agenda on youth, peace and security. The global forum will be held under the patronage of Crown Prince Al Hussein, and organized on behalf of the United Nations Inter-Agency Network on Youth Development (IANYD), by the Office of the Secretary-General’s Envoy on Youth (OSGEY), the United Nations Peacebuilding Support Office (PBSO), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Search for Common Ground and the United Network of Young Peace builders.
