Gaza (IINA) – Participants at a UN Security Council meeting agreed that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip cannot continue on this course, stressing that there must be an immediate end to the illegal siege imposed by the Israeli authorities on the enclave as a prerequisite to speed up the reconstruction process.
Participants in the meeting held at the UN Headquarters in New York, called for by Malaysia's Mission together with the Permanent Mission of Jordan, the Arab member of the Security Council, to discuss the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, and the responsibility of the Security Council, a year after the Israeli aggression on Gaza.
Malaysian Ambassador Ramlan Ibrahim underlined the need for the Security Council to shoulder its responsibility for the current situation in the Gaza Strip.
For her part, Jordanian Ambassador to the United Nations Dina Kawar said that the international community must address the root causes of the difficult humanitarian situation in Gaza, most importantly lifting of the blockade and cementing the ceasefire. She called on Israel to uphold the international law and its commitment to the relevant UN resolutions.
