Riyadh (IINA) – A suicide bomber's car exploded late on Thursday at a checkpoint in Riyadh, killing the driver and injuring two policemen, the Interior Ministry said.
The Security spokesman of the Ministry of Interior said that "it was around the time of sunset prayers today (Thursday) when police manning a checkpoint on Al-Hair Road in Riyadh asked the driver of a suspected car to stop, he blew up the car and killed himself."
He stated that two policemen were injured in the blast and were immediately rushed to the hospital, adding that they were in stable condition. He pointed out that the competent authorities initiated an investigation into the incident.
The spokesman revealed the identity of the driver, saying he is called Abdullah Fahd Abdullah Al-Rasheed, a Saudi citizen, born in 1417H. He added that the authorities also found that the suicide bomber has never traveled outside the Kingdom, according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
The spokesman said “it turned out that before blowing up the car at the checkpoint, the bomber killed his uncle Col. Rashid Ibrahim Al Sufyan in his house in Riyadh, noting that the incident is under investigation.
