Kuala Lumpur (IINA) – Malaysia's Prime Minister Najib Razak stressed that his government will continue to push for the creation of a full, thorough and independent international tribunal into the incident of downing the Malaysian Airlines flight MH17 in Ukraine a year ago, saying the battle for truth and justice is far from over.
"This was for the sake of the families and friends of the 298 people who perished in the tragedy", he added.
Addressing the victims' loved ones in a post on his blog, Najib said there were no words that he could offer to ease their pain but they should know that their pain and sorrow were shared by all, according to BERNAMA news agency.
"Take comfort in knowing that MH17 brought the country together in an act of unity that would make anyone proud to call themselves Malaysians. May that unity be the legacy of those we lost", he said.
It may be mentioned here that flight MH 17 was shot down over the skies of war-torn eastern Ukraine, while en route from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur. The first anniversary of the tragic incident passed amid recriminations between Ukraine's government and the Russian-backed Ukrainian rebels.
