President Caid Essebsi
Carthage (IINA) – Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi will begin on Wednesday a two-day visit to the United States that will crown the permanent consultations, initiated with President Barack Obama since 2011, according to Tunisia Press Agency (TAP).
Spokesman for the Presidency Moez Sinaoui told reporters here on Monday that this exceptional visit will see the publication of an article penned by both presidents in the Washington Post. He noted that this is a first for an Arab country being a symbolic support to Tunisia as a first successful democratic experience in the region.
A memorandum of understanding will be signed during the visit to lay the foundations of political, economic and scientific cooperation between the two countries, by establishing a strategic dialogue at the level of the two foreign ministries and presidents.
In the military field, the spokesman said the fight against terrorism will be the focus of talks, noting that one of the objectives of the visit is to strengthen U.S. support in terms of military equipment and training.
Sinaoui said the Libyan crisis and the Palestinian cause will be discussed during the visit, pointing out that Palestine President Mahmoud Abbas entrusted Essebsi with extending a message to Obama.
