Riyadh (IINA) - Saudi Arabia supports those who seek to unite the ranks of Muslims and Arabs, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman said here on Sunday after receiving Arab Parliament’s Medal of First Class.

The award, the first to an Arab leader, was presented to the King by Speaker of Arab Parliament Ahmed Al-Jarwan. The award is in recognition of King Salman’s bold stand on Arab issues in general and the issue of the brotherly people of Yemen in particular. Accepting the award, the King said: “The Kingdom feels responsibility because Arabism was launched from the Arabian Peninsula, and the Kingdom constitutes the largest area of the Peninsula.
“The Revelation came to Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) in Makkah and Madinah, thus heralding the march of Islam. This is a matter of pride for us, but it is a great responsibility: Our responsibility for the Islamic religion and Arabism. “It is an honor for the Arabs that the Holy Qur’an was revealed in the Arabic language to an Arab Prophet. Here we must shoulder our responsibility. Muslims all over the world are our brothers. “This does not mean that we hold hostility toward others. Every person’s religion is between him and the Creator.
Earlier, speaker of the Shoura Council Abdullah Al-Asheikh praised Arab Parliament’s decision to award King Salman the Medal of First Class. He said the award is a medal of appreciation of the Arab people represented by the Arab Parliament. “This medal of the Arab Parliament representing Arab countries is the first medal to be awarded to an Arab leader,” he said. The Arab Parliament was established following the Arab League summit of 2001 in Amman. Arab states agreed to create an Arab Parliament, and came up with a resolution to give the secretary general of the Arab League the power to start and establish the parliament.  In 2004, in the ordinary Arab League summit in Algiers, all Arab League members agreed to send their representatives to the temporary parliament sessions which took place at the headquarters of the Arab League in Cairo.
