Jerusalem (IINA) – The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club (PPC) on Thursday warned that hundreds of sick and wounded Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails are deprived of necessary medical care, and some of them receive only painkillers.

The organization said the condition of some of the patients has seriously deteriorated due to the Israeli authorities' continued policy to ignore the needs of sick Palestinian inmates.

In a report issued Thursday to mark the International Day of Solidarity with the Sick Palestinian Prisoners in Israeli jails, the Club said the number of prisoners who are suffering from different kinds of diseases has reached more than 600 so far. Some 160 of them are suffering from critical conditions and in need of permanent health care. The Club pointed out that the most critical cases are those who remain at Ramleh prison clinic, which lacks basic medical and health care needs of sick inmates facing the risk of death at any moment.

The Prisoners' Club said 11 prisoners have been permanently languishing in Ramleh prison clinic, noting that Israel continues to detain prisoners in its jails despite the irrefutable evidence which substantiate that the continued policy of medical negligence is the main cause of their ill-health.
