Jeddah, (IINA) - Chairman of the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) Mohammed al-Awash, revealed today here the determination of the Union to held an intensive workshop in Tunisia during the first week of April in order to establish an Arabic, Islamic media vision to counter terrorism speech and the distort image of Islam.
In a statement to the International Islamic News Agency (IINA), Al-Awash noted that the workshop, which will be held soon in coordination with the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, will witness the participation of the Member States and the Union of Islamic radio stations and civil society organizations and academics.
He stressed that the workshop will work on "the right development of vision and perception in order to confront the phenomenon of extremism terrorism and the tarnish image of Islam.
Al-Awash added, that the workshop will also cover the way out and the solution of linking these extremist terrorist the religion of Islam in their practices.
Al-Awash also noted that there are many challenges in our days facing the Arab and Islamic countries and that require activating the role of the media in its confrontation.
He said in this regard, that the Islamic and Arabic media hold a responsibility in expressing and showing the tolerance of Islam as a religion of moderation.
This statement also came during his meeting, with the Director-General of the Union of Islamic radio stations of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation Mohammed Salem.
During the meeting, both side signed an executive program agreement in order to activate the media cooperation agreement between the two unions.
From his side, the Director-General Mohammed Salem confirmed that the meeting discussed the aspects of cooperation between the two unions, noting that the two unions share common goals in favor of the Member States in the production and exchange of joint programs and training.
