Palestinian President Abbas begins two-day visit to Russia

Moscow (IINA) – Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas arrived in Moscow on Sunday for a two-day visit to Russia, Palestinian News Agency WAFA reported.
Abbas is scheduled to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Monday to brief him on the political situation on the Palestinian arena, including the idea of ​​holding an international peace conference to address the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Abbas and Putin are also set to discuss Arab League efforts to obtain a UN Security Council resolution against the ongoing Israeli settlement expansion in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, as well as the historical and distinguished bilateral relations between the two countries.
Abbas was accompanied in the trip by Secretary of the PLO Executive Committee Dr Saeb Erekat, Foreign Minister Dr Riyad al-Malki, Presidency Spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh, and President's Diplomatic Advisor Dr Majdi Khaldi. Palestine's Ambassador to Russia Abdel Hafiz Nofal will also join the delegation.
Abbas’ visit to Russia comes on the heels of a trip to France, where he met with French President Francois Hollande.
