Missouri, (IINA) - The Imam Council of Metropolitan Saint Louis (ICMSTL) and the Missouri chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-MO) on Wednesday expressed solidarity with the people of Belgium, Turkey and other nations targeted by global terror attacks and repudiated any politicians who are taking political advantage of the tragedy for their own selfish gains.
ICMSTL and CAIR-MO called on Republican Presidential hopeful Ted Cruz to retract and apologize for his unconstitutional policy proposal to introduce police-state actions in Muslim neighborhoods, CAIR reported.
In a Facebook post, Cruz said: “We need to empower law enforcement to patrol and secure Muslim neighborhoods before they become radicalized.”
“Tragically, in recent days there have been attacks in Ankara, Istanbul and now Brussels,” said Mufti Asif Umar communication coordinator with ICMSTL. “The American Muslim community with the victims of these horrific acts of terrorism and our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. We also condemn Ted Cruz’s racist, xenophobic, and anti-Muslim remarks as being shameful and a tool to divide us as Americans.”
“We are shocked by not only these heinous attacks against all of our humanity but also against those who are taking advantage of this tragedy for their own selfish political gains,” said Faizan Syed, executive director of CAIR-MO.
CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
